Great izakaya. Lots of Japanese nationals...so you know it is good and authentic. This night was more mixed than the initial visit.
Parking is a bit difficult with the lot that is adjacent usually filling up fast at dinner time. Fair amount of street parking...fair amount of homeless folks, but they usually don't bother.
Skewers are excellent. I had chicken hearts - a first and quite good - on my initial visit. This second occasion they were sold out...we were broken hearted...especially Mike Trout. The pork wrapped rice with egg was great!
Service is excellent. Busy both times ...the kitchen must've been hot as heck. Atmosphere is bustling. -

I would say this is my favorite restaurant in Honolulu. It's no frills, with tons of sake and yummy food. The restaurant has that dark wood, cramped, smoky atmosphere that you would expect of an Izakaya place. Smoke from the grill mixes with the tobacco smoke of the restaurant's patrons who chat outside. The menu is handwritten and full of pictures, so everyone knows what's good to order; even if you may be the only one speaking English in the restaurant. For Hawaii, the restaurant is small, and you may get stuck right next to the sake fridge and have to move a little bit anytime they reach in for a drink. But for me, since eating in Europe and NYC, the place is very comfortable and quaint.
The tomato salad is a must, along with their pickled quail eggs. I always get the rice stick with pork belly and egg yolk ( I forget the name of the dish). Their yakitori is also good, with sauce is best. The eel kamameshi is awesome. Make sure you save room for their only dessert option...because who doesn't like kiromitsu and kinako ( I believe that is the names)? Wash it all down with a whiskey high ball or a bottle of sake because you will have to ask for water. -

Although the food was fresh and decent, it certainly was not that best that I have had. The Yakitori items were ordinary and not very memorable to bring me back. I'm saying this because I have had better Yakitori that I would get in line and wait for hours just to get table. The wait staff is very helpful and efficient.
The best item was probably the eel kamameshi. -

Many yelpers here and news articles have painted Tori Ton as an establishment that serves great food and drinks for an affordable price. After looking at tonight's bill, I can certainly attest to their great prices. However, I thought that their food fell a little under par.
Gobo Kaarage (5.50): Highly recommend this! The gobo was very crunchy and sweet. The batter was also light and crispy. Love this texture and flavor combo!
Yaki Onigiri Stick ($2.50/stick): This wasn't too good, unfortunately. The rice was slightly undercooked and the yaki onigiri didn't have a crunchy outer rice shell as some other places I've been to. The sauce was wonderful though!
Salmon Kamameshi ($12.90): The rice was lightly infused with salmon flavoring and the cooking pot allowed for an earthy umami flavor. I liked this a lot! Though I thought the salmon was small and a little dry.
Pork Wrapped Fluffy Fish Cake ($2.90/stick): Highly recommend this! The fish cakes were very fluffy as the name suggests and the pork was lightly salted.
Chicken Gizzard ($1.98/stick): Salty and crunchy, love it! We ordered three of these! The smoky flavor went really well with the gizzards!
Tsukune ($6.90): Saw a lot of fo people ordering this so decided to try it out. It was nothing special really, it's good for people who like hamburger steak. The egg yolk is great if you add a little bit of soy sauce though!
The waiters and waitresses there are all very energetic and friendly, which made the experience a lot better. It gets really busy here so sometimes it's difficult to get their attention. Also, the dishes come out of the kitchen at a pretty slow pace so prepare to do a lot of waiting.
We came in at 9:45 and a lot of the items were sold out on the menu, so make sure to come early! -

It was ok. 3.5.
I'd heard many good things about this tiny spot on King street and was compelled to see for myself.
Made the reservation and was able to change it at the last moment. Friendly attentive service. Our orders arrived quickly.
Food was ok--some hits and misses. Sashimi was not fresh....the skewered shiitake for $2.60-its one mushroom cut in to two pieces and salty.
I did enjoy the pork wrapped Mochi, mushroom, asparagus, tsukune and oden items. They do indeed have some tasty skewers. I liked the anchovy fries.
Atmosphere was ok--frankly, I felt a bit confined. The parking lot was really full since it's shared with several other popular restaurants.
Hmmmmm....prices were reasonable, service was good. I guess I just expected more.
